GARDAÍ HAVE ARRESTED a man in his 40s in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that left a 16-year-old boy dead in the early hours of the morning.

The incident happened in Blackwood, near Robertstown, Co Kildare shortly after midnight. The body of the young pedestrian was brought to Naas General Hospital this morning.

He had been struck by a vehicle. The driver failed to remain at the scene, according to gardaí.

The man is currently detained at a Garda station in Co. Kildare under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

A cordon is in place as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators examine the scene and local traffic diversions remain in place.

Investigating Gardaí continue to appeal for witnesses. In addition, they are particularly appealing to those with camera footage, including dash-cam, from the Prosperous, Allenwood, Carbury, and Robertstown areas between 11:30 pm and 3:30 am on 10th November, to come forward.
